Eva Matteson
Morning Show Diva

My Road To Maine I grew up in Brentwood/Santa Monica, Calif. In 1996, I accepted a job in Nashville and began to live as a Southern Belle! I came to Maine in January 2005. Since there is no further point east I can go and I love it here, I plan to stay for a long time!

Off To Work I Go: Before radio, I had several diverse careers. I began as a corporate travel agent, first working with a lot of the high tech companies and eventually becoming the rock n’ roll travel chick. I helped coordinate U.S. and World tours for bands, record execs, etc. I segued to working in Pop record promotion for an independent promotion company. We branched into personal management and took on-a then unknown choreographer-Paula Abdul as our first client. Many fun and grueling years spent catering to the demands of a pop diva. After a break from life—I spent several months living in Italy—and some non-memorable jobs, I became the Associate Country Editor for a music trade magazine. It was 1994 and Country was a super hot format. I then took the job of Country Editor/Nashville Bureau Chief for Gavin magazine and I made the move to Nashville. After 40+ years, Gavin closed its doors in March of 2002. It was a sad time, not just for us employees, but also to many who in the music and radio communities, because Gavin had been so much a part of the business. It was then—quite by accident-that I found myself in radio-sort of. Several stations who knew I was very in the “Nashville” loop asked if I would be interested in doing some Country music entertainment reports. I thought, “why not,” since I had no clue what else I was going to do. Word of mouth spread and soon I had my own little network of stations. I supplemented by income by partnering with an old business associate to launch our own company, which specialize in producing radio interview tours for country artists. But by then I had been truly bitten by the radio bug, so I was thrilled when the afternoon drive slot became available at Country WSM-FM in Nashville. I got the job and voila! Probably do something in the fitness field. Each year I find myself more and more drawn to new ways to work out and helping others feel good about themselves!

If I Couldn’t Work In Radio, I Would…:

Up, Up & Away: I’ve been lucky to have traveled to Italy, England, France, Mexico, Austria, Spain, Hawaii, Canada, The Czech Republic, and extensively through the U.S. The top three new places I want to visit someday are Israel, Australia and Tahiti.

As The Saying Goes…: My favorite sayings—none that I can take credit for creating-include “Wear Life Like A Loose Sweater” (my mom), “We’re Only On Loan To Each Other” (also my mom), and “Just When The Caterpillar Thought The World Was Over, It Became A Butterfly.” (Anonymous).
